Hey folks, I'm sorry I've been such a pessimist or doomsayer lately. While I truly believe what I say is going to happen, its not gonna happen tomorrow.

It's all gonna work out one way or the other.

I try to steer a middle course in my thinking. I hope for the best and realize we may get hit with the worst. But no age or time has been without violence, oppression, turmoil and problems. If you look at the last 100 yrs the past 20 have been the calmest in recent history. If you go back more than 100 yrs in comparison, the current quality of life for most Americans is unprecedented in world history. Obviously the question is begged: Can it last? Time will tell. I believe in the Human Spirit and especially believe in the American Spirit. We will be OK.

No punchline coming Raven. People can believe what they choose to believe. It is typical of our species to not want to look at the ugly side of our consumerism.

As long as we can do what we want, drive what we want, eat what we want, when we want, we don't care about how it got there or where it goes when we're done with it. All we know is that we go to the gas station and fuel is there. We go to a restaurant and order food and it appears.

Rose colored glasses are a wonderful thing. I just took mine off.

I understand that when it concerns fuel, it is an finite source, and while there will be population die off as you have said, will it affect our way of life? Of course it will, but I don't think it is going to be all gloomy as people are saying. We will just have to revert back to the colonial times and use coal and wood. Granted fuel is used to feed the masses, and once we loss that "luxury" the masses will begin to die off from starvation, but after the initial wave of 25% to 40% of the population dying off, things will work themselves out in way that resembles the way of live before the use of fuel. I mean the first major use of fuel didn't begin until the 18th century, but not until the late 19th, early 20th century for it to really "take off". While it will be a huge change in a lifestyle, but one where we, as a species, have already traveled.

Withpout being too gloomful on this, the gas price increases hit everything. Transport of products becomes mroe expensive. Production facilities that rely on petrolium products to run and for their products costs increases accross the board. Prices at the grocery store go up do to the above factors. Being a smart shopper is even more important when we have major long term increases in gas prices. The price of oil doesnt just hit your wallet at the pump. It hits you everywhere.

Greg also gets an "A"....

You're learning people. Greg is absolutely correct. Oil is not only fuel for your car. It's pesticides that keep bugs away from your food. It's fertilizer that lets the farmer grow your food. It's in the plastics you use everyday. It's in the trucks that transport your goods across the country. It's in almost everything we touch in one way or another.

So, like Greg said, when oil prices go up, everything will cost more. At some point it will cost too much.

This is gonna be fun!

Sorry GL....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I would tend to give you an "A" for optimism but a "C" for not recognizing that there really is no middle ground to take.

A strong "B+" for GL!!
